Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates the search and returns the response. Clatsop County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, we retain the message so that we can respond. It is kept within our organization and is not disclosed outside it unless sharing is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive certain technical information whenever a page loads, including:
- The date and time of each page view
- Your device's assigned IP address
- The browser and version used
- Your operating system and device type
- The pages viewed and the time spent on them
- The referring website, when one exists
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, such as which pages are often visited and where visits end. You can block cookies through browser settings, although doing so may change how some website functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnose errors and other technical problems
- Keep the website available and loading efficiently
- Route search requests to the proper partner service
- Assess which content visitors use and where improvements are needed
- Display advertising that may reflect a visitor's interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Clatsop County Criminal History does not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records held by the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office, Clatsop County Circuit Court and municipal courts, Oregon State Police Criminal Justice Information Services, and the Oregon Sex Offender Registry. Government access is controlled separately by Oregon Public Records Law, ORS 192.311 to 192.478, and the criminal-history confidentiality and dissemination rules in ORS 181A.220, 181A.230, and 181A.245. Visitor data is not used to create consumer reports or third-party criminal files, and this privately run resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted to a search tool is handled under that provider's privacy policy, not this policy. We do not control the provider's retention or disclosure choices. Review its policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Clatsop County offices, Oregon court and agency portals, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once you follow an external link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read that policy before providing personal information.
Advertising partners may also track activity across websites to deliver targeted advertising. That processing occurs through their systems rather than ours.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be provided to:
- Analytics vendors that measure visits and website performance
- Outside search providers that process queries submitted to them
- Advertising networks that place advertising on the website
- Government bodies or law enforcement when disclosure is compelled by a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use standard safeguards for information in our control. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security, however. Reasonable steps are taken to protect collected information, but we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it promptly.
Your Data Rights
Depending on where you live and whether a law applies to a particular organization or type of data, the Oregon Consumer Privacy Act, ORS 646A.570 to 646A.589, may provide added rights concerning personal data. At a minimum, you may:
- Request deletion of data associated with you
- Ask for access to information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Opt out of certain forms of data processing
